I got this 1:32 scale Aston Martin DB5 kit by Airfix off eBay and decided to see if I could transform it into a Slot Car. Using an extra 1:43 scale Artin car for running gear, I got out the dremmel and started cutting. I found a 1:32 scale Viper metal body kit by Testors with axles and tires that work great on this car. I painted the body Grape Pearl.
The interior is a piece
of cardboard from a Hot Wheels card back, and the various interior pieces actually
came from the kit itself. The driver is a modified tank driver, cut off at mid-chest,
painted and glued in with the
rest of the interior pieces.
The car runs great, and handles much like an older style slot car. The original Artin magnet holds the car down somewhat, but not so much to make it handle real well. The can handles much like my Ninco Cobra, though not quite as fast. It probably won't win any races, but I feel this car is as close to actual kit form as a slot car can get, using most of the original kit chassis as possible, and still be strong enough to run on the track.
