Christmas Competition 2001 - Winners Announced

Model Car Racing Magazine

Robert Schleicher has finished judging the entries and here our his results:

It is difficult to judge on photographs alone, but there are cars that fall more closely into the parameters that are guiding MODEL CAR RACING magazine's presentation of the hobby. The subtitle of the magazine is, after all, Racing Replicas of Real Cars on Home Slot Car Tracks." With that as a criteria, the top three cars, in order are, in my opinion:

First Place: Rob Soutar's Porsche 962K8 LMP

I like the concept that a ready-built model is really just a pale to start to make something you cannot buy. The workmanship looks very nice and it should run well. And, it really is a replica of real racing car.

Second Place: Willie Patterson, McLaren F1 GTR.

Frankly, I was awed by the quality of the paint and finish. It appears to be at least as good as the pad-printed factory-built cars and that's quite a compliment to its builder.

Third Place: Tim Bissell, Matchbox 1/32 Tyrrell P34/2.

Motorizing a static kit is never quite as easy as it looks. Tim seems to have managed to retain as much of the static model's full interior as possible.

Honorable Mention must certainly go to John Strong's MGTD Mark II, Bryan King's Jaguar E-Type and Anthony Bartlett's Bentley.
