Construction

I built up this kit complete after first determining there was sufficient clearance to mount the motor under the chassis. Plastic card was used to construct the mountings for the front and rear axles, and then the motor. Originally the kit had spoked wheels with hard plastic tyres, which I was going to use but they didn't offer a lot of grip. I'd therefore opted for larger 'hot-rod' tyres, although the back suspension needed to be raised slightly to accommodate them!

A few laps round the track determined the optimum height for the guide blade. Once everything was glued in place, I disassembled the components and started painting. With using fat tyres, I thought about a customised paint job, but then decided on the original classic paintwork. I used the driver figure supplied and as the back seat looked a bit bare, I added the scratch-built 'dapper gent'.

Driving

On the track, the car is large and dwarfs most other cars. I didn't fit a magnet so there's plenty of slide when cornering and with the fat rear tyres there's not much chance of tipping over. It's fun to drive, however the dapper gent has to hold onto his top hat frequently.

Although it's a mixture of classic and contemporary, the end result is definitely something a bit different.
