The parts used for the Kenworth Longranger truck are as follows: 1 Revell 1:32 scale
Truck Kit To convert the Kenworth kit for slot use I solicited the help of Mr Malcolm Barnet who modified the front part of one of his roadster chassis to my measurements. The trailer was simply built as intended, but care was taken to ensure the wheels which are simply hard plastic turned while the trailer was towed. The trailer sides, top and doors where sprayed satin black along with the cab & aero device, while the rest was freehand painted. The motor wires needed extending by soldering & two brass tags attached so as to fit to the SCX guide. The motor & axle were then fitted. To fit the chassis under the tractor the front gearbox & bellhousing assembly had to be cut away and the trailing arms for the rear wheel bogies modified. The chassis was then fixed by means of two rear screws & front points by araldite & left to dry. The drive comes from the inner pair of the front, rear bogey wheels. To provide rubber contact to the track I had to construct wheels by using old Vanwall wheels & tyres with a set of tyres from a cheap childs toy fitted over them. To ensure that the tractor wheels all looked the same the plastic kit wheels & chrome hubs were then bonded to the outside of the drive wheels, so that visually the eight bogey wheels look as they would on the static kit from the outside. The brass chassis was painted black to hide it, and the cab constructed & mounted on top. Finally the decals were applied with decalfix & hairdryer, and a last coat of high gloss lacquer applied. The Truck has turned
a good 50-60 laps at Wolverhampton S.C.C. on all lanes using the tractor
unit, but the trailers height restricts it to just two of the six. Estimated
total cost of parts & kit £50, time taken for
