Construction

This was my first attempt at making or converting a slot racing car. As such I had neither the raw materials nor knowledge to scratch build any components or fine tune the on-track handling aspects of the car. Because of this I decided to utilise pre-made assemblies wherever possible.

I chose the Cobra chassis as its wheelbase matched the MG and with the motor mounted forward I could retain as much cabin detail as possible.

I cut the Ninco axials to the correct length and glued the wheels on to prevent then slipping or worse, coming off.

I modified the interior details and raised the floor pan to clear the motor and drive shaft. In order to compensate for the reduced cabin space I then modified virtually all aspects of the interior (floor pan, seats, dashboard and driver).

Mounting the body onto the chassis required some minor cutting, filing of the wheel arches and gluing of fixing mounts for the screws.

I used standard Humbrol paints for all but the bodywork for which I used Humbrol spray paints.

I would be the first to admit that this model comes nowhere near the quality of the other entries, all of which are outstanding.  But I decided to enter the competition anyway in the spirit of the hobby of slot racing. I thoroughly enjoyed the creation of my MGB and as a first attempt I am proud of my work and I am happy to share it with others.
