Porsche 962K8 LMP
I used the Fly Joest Porsche
as a base for the K8, however extensive mods were necessary to achieve the shape
of the K8. The most difficult was reshaping the rear deck behind the driver.
The rear of the Fly body had to be cut away entirely, and a new rear made from
a curved piece of plastic card pushed up from underneith and filled to finish.
The rear end of the car was also similarly extended and filled. The sides were
also cut away and modified with plastic card to achieve the curve just behind
the front wheel, and the vents on the side just in front of the rear wheels
were also scratch build from plastic card.
The bonnet was slightly lengthened at the bottom and vents added, and finally
the cab was reshaped to a much squarer shape, and the windscreen cut from a
washing up liquid bottle.
The wheels came from a 917, and the driver was from the Airfix 917 kit with a Fly helmet.
The decals were designed by myself and took more than a month to complete. Printed onto decal paper using an OKI5000 printer.
Due to our club LMP rules,
the chassis is unaltered from the original with the exception of mounting the
magent dead centre (just under the driver's seat). However, this car has won
it's class two seasons running.
