Track Design Competition: Dave Coveney

The track is totally Scalextric classic track.

The layout is built on 3 separate sections, giving an overall size of 16ft 10ins x 5ft 4ins. The track is fixed down onto boards, and is in the garage. When all buildings etc are removed, the boards are stored, to allow use of the garage. Each lane has an equal running length of 17.25 meters

The classic pacer unit has been remotely wired, this removing the housing from the edge of the track.

Timing and Lap counting are done using the track piece from the Classic lap counter, which has been remotely wired to the Sport lap counter.

All buildings and are Scalextric, which have been purchased from Ebay.

Tyre wall barriers are SCX.

I have tried to build a circuit, which utilises a disused airfield so there are no trees.

The track lights are home built from Aluminium tube and 12 volt ‘Grain of Wheat bulbs’ which are operated from a 10 volt supply, (This gives a more realistic light output). All the buildings are illuminated, again using 12 volt ‘Grain of Wheat bulbs’ - 3 are wired in series between buildings (This gives a more realistic light output)

The crowd are comprised of Preiser; SCX figures which are ready painted; and Scalextric; MRRC; figures, most of which have been painted by me.

Quad bikes and some figures are Britains

Vehicles are a mixture of Scalextric; SCX; Ninco; Fly; and BumSlot.
