The Reaction Track!
Hi, these are some photos of the track I recently built for our local youth club. The track is four lanes, all scalextric classic, built using track that a friend and I had accumulated over the years.
The track is all screwed down to a chipboard base (yes its heavy to move!) which hinges in the middle, the bridge is built from plywood. The barriers were cut from a large sheet of Perspex, painted grey, and fixed using short lengths of dowel. After many nights (and many burnt fingers!) I managed to solder every connection and extend the hand controllers. Definitely worth it as the track is completely reliable.
The track is a testament to how good a product Scalextric is, when the kids found out we were building it they asked about its progress every week till it was ready, and now, despite having several Playstations, Nintendos etc the track gets the most use (usually with fights over who's turn it is!!!)
As for scenery, well we haven't really got that far yet, the kids want to build some themselves.....which should be interesting!! (At the moment the track has that clinical Germany Ring feel to it).
As for me....don't worry, my wife to be has allowed me to start work on a huge wooden track in the loft.
