Track Design Competition: Nick garland

Hi my name is Nick, my first scalextric set I was given for Christmas in 1999 when I was 10, over the last few years I have bought more cars and track and my dad decided that it should all go in the loft as a permanent circuit, so he boarded up part of the loft into a room where I would have a large layout using my circuit and my dads. The circuit now is approximately 30m long, made from SCX and Sport track with each lane powered separately. Because of the size and the layout, I had difficulty in photographing the entire circuit but hope the two photo’s give you a good idea of what it looks like.

The pit lane garages we made from hardboard and MDF which we’ve painted and pasted on brick paper, the pit wall we’ve made from card and tooth picks with the points cut off. The logo’s used on the garages and pit wall are from the computer.

The scenery we have made from polystyrene, ice cream tubs and papier mache which we have painted green and glued on artificial grass adding trees for more realism, the tunnel we made from hardboard, chicken wire and papier mache. The grandstand we made from card and printed off pictures of crowds to use as spectators.
We hope this year to paint over the polystyrene in the roof to create a sky, hope you like the circuit.

Nick
