Track Design Competition: Pendle Slot Racing Entry - Not Valid for Competition!

The track layout has been built in the Pendle Slot Racing showroom to show what can be achieved in a relatively small area. The track has been layed onto chipwood baseboards measuring 12foot x 6foot it is important when building a permanent layout that it is layed onto a solid flat surface, another advantage is that the wood surafce can be painted to blend in with the scenery. In one section we painted the boards black to recreated a car parking area. The remaining sections have been covered using carpet tiles between the track sections, these are ideal as the tiles are the same height as the track.

One end of the circuit has been raised by 2 inches to give a slightly banked effect which helps cars corner at speed. The fly-over bridge has been created using the SCX complete bridge assembly which holds the track firmly and securely. The track circuit has been designed using the track planner on the RMS system, each lane has exactly the same running length (a plan of the design can be emailed on request). The track used is the new Scalextric Sport and uses some of the new sections including the racing curves and hairpin chicane. The pitlane connects to the sport track by using the convertor track sections (c8222). Track borders, barriers have been used on most corners which give a realistic look but also help to give more run off area when cornering at speed. We have used a mixture of old and new buildings from both Scalextric and SRA. The pit lane is a superb focal point of the track and comes alive when adding SRA pit crews painted in works colours to the 3 Scalextric Sport pit buildings. Some of the scenics have been home made such as the tyre barriers which are simply old Scalextric tyres super-glued together and bound with coloured insulation tape.
