Track Design Competition: Phil Upton

The making of a permanent track first came to me while clearing up a layout at 1am, thinking there must be a quicker way to pack this lot up.

The first step was to design a track that could be raced and secondly stored in sections on it’s side flat against the wall. After buying a Ninco DTM set and borrowing some track design software I started to work out how I would achieve this.

The first efforts were to complex with tight turns trying to get as much track as I could in a restricted space. Starting again with racing in mind I came up with a design that looked good with sweeping lines and not many hairpins. Next problem really was to cut down on the number of joins in the track, The entire track fits on three cut to size sections from 9mm MDF. Not a lot of buildings /trees as yet that is why I entered the competition!
