I decided to finally build myself a routed slotcar track late september this year. I live in a small flat so space was a major issue. I ended up buying a 2.4m by 1.2m sheet of 12mm MDF, which was later cut in the middle for easier storage and a possible future expansion. For power supply I used coppertape that I found cheaply through a local leadlight window shop. The tracklayout that I decided on is very twisty and challenging. Thanks to the extra little kink on the inside lane, the two seem closely matched timewise and have provided us with some interesting battles!
For the scenery I used mostly styrofoam (that came with our TV), cut to size
for the mountainous area of the track. Bushes and small trees come from a
bag of green moss stuff, from a railroad shop, and the grass is made out
of an
old towel (my girlfriends idea) that was sprayed green and then touched up
with some yellow and a different shade of green applied carefully with a
paintbrush. I also used some static model grass from Citadell modelling
for the thin strips.
My fences are made from steel wire and 10mm square profile wood cut, drilled
and then painted white. I have been on a tight budget here so trees, people
and buildings are not overrepresented as of now, but change will hopefully
come to that. My plan is also to put an extension piece in between the two
existing sheets of MDF so there will be plenty of more work to come. I appologise
for the fact that the scenery isn't entirely finnished at one far end of
the track, but I stil! l wanted to submit my work.
