My layout is completely new, and I've been rushing to finish the basics, so I could enter the competition. The first trial runs were on the evening of Monday, 9th December, and it works perfectly.
The track is made from a 10mm MDF board, 3.65 x 1.6m, and the three-lane track is 14m in length. A 3mm milled groove has been fitted with copper from Pendle Slot Racing.
There is a pit stop with sliproads after the chicane - it uses a set of points from a model railway. We use this during racing, when a refuelling pit stop is required. Photoelectric cells in the track detect when a car is in the pit stop.
The layout is of course lacking buildings and landscape effects; these will
come later.
The board on which the layout is mounted can be folded up against the wall,
so it takes up as little space as possible.
Happy Xmas to all in the Slotcar world.
