Track Design Competition: Trevor May

Here are some pictures of my track, which is situated in my loft, hence the low quality shots and flash!

The track is a Classic Scalextric two lane using a computer based timing system by VRS and it is wired for brakes. There are over 400 people "on site" and all the buildings have lights, but I was unable to get a decent shot of them with my camera. On the shelves below the track are the 750 ish cars in my collection.

The scenery was built using those foam pellets that you get in parcels, these were heaped up to form the hillsides and coated with wallpaper glue to stop them moving around, then I made up a mix of Polyfilla and Vermiculite ( this is a material sold in garden centres for keeping the moisture in potted plants and consists of tiny granules of cork ) , this gives a kind of lumpy porridge which I applied over the foam pellets and then painted. It's very cheap, very light and very quick to do. The paddock area was covered in sheets of "wet and dry" to look like asphalt . There are several waste bins attached to buildings and posts, these are old plastic hair curlers cut in half and painted silver ( don't tell my Mum!!).
