Whats On? | Scalextric Test Hill Challenge

Scalextric

Scalextric Hill Climb using the famous Brooklands Hill Climb track - bring your own Scalextric car and race up the hill.

The Test Hill was constructed 100 years ago & the purpose was to test the ability of cars driving up steep hills & testing their brakes coming down. The concrete strip is just over 350 feet long with an average gradient of 1 in 5.027 & near the top a gradient of around 1 in 4.

(1) Race Format:

a; There are two competitions: One for Scalextric Club members and an open competition to all other visitors. The same rules apply to Club members and public.

b; There is a charge of £1 per go on the Scalextric Test Hill Challenge. Monies taken go the Brooklands Trust and the Scalextric supported charity.

c; There is no limit to the amount of attempts that anyone competitor can take. Each further attempt costs £1 and the competitor has to join the tail of the queue and await their turn.

d; The two competitions are divided thus:

i) The ‘Scalextric Club Champion 2009’: Scalextric Club members can enter the ‘2009 Scalextric Club Champion’ competition on production of their valid Scalextric Club card.

This is a one-off event. This year the ‘Brooklands Test Hill Challenge’ is the nominated Scalextric Club champion event.
ii) Non members can enter the ‘Brooklands Test Hill Challenge’ but are not eligible to win the ‘2009 Scalextric Club Champion’ prize but class winners will still receive a prize.

A prize will be awarded for each class winner.

The Scalextric Race Controller’s decision on any disputes during the competition will be final.

(2) Objective:

a; The objective is, from the Start Line at the foot of the Brooklands Test Hill, to reach the Finish Line at the top of the Test Hill.

b; The driver is required to stop the Scalextric car at the half-way point on the hill and, upon the signal from the ‘half-way flag’ marshal, continue to the top.

c; The driver whose car reaches the Finish Line in the fastest time, having satisfactorily stopped at the half-way point and then continued to the top, is deemed to be the winner.
