The 2018 UK Classic Sports and GT Proxy was an invitational championship for a group of friends interested in building authentic, scale slot cars. There were about 15 cars entered and were raced at 4 different tracks around the country and driven by a different set of drivers at each venue.
The car I built represents the Ferrari 250 GTO-64 that entered at Le Mans in 1964 by Maranello Concessionaires and driven by Innes Ireland and Tony Maggs to finish 6th over all.
The body shell is MRRC with a bonnet scoop added and home made decals. It runs on a slightly modified Penelope Pitlane chassis with the body mounted on the side pans. Motor is a 16K SRP stipulated by the rules and Slot-it gears, guide and axles. Wheels are painted PCS spoke wheels with PCS tyres on the front and Ortmann on the rear.
The car was very stable and easy to drive – essential ingredients for a proxy race where other people will be driving. The car did very well and won each round to become the overall champion.
