The British Racing Motor (BRM) was born with the aim of leading the F-1 with a car built with British materials and technology, reflecting the powerful automotive industry of the United Kingdom at the time.
His first car, the revolutionary BRM V16 with its sophisticated engine, did not achieve the expected success and after the new rules that imposed atmospheric engines was relieved by the new BRM P-25 more conventional project, based on a front engine of 2.5 4-cylinder liter of its own design and chassis with some mechanical geniuses, as its only internal brake disc in the rear of the transmission.
Mike Hawthorn, Ron Flockhart and Tony Brooks participated with the first prototypes in the 1956 British GP and despite not finishing any of them, the BRM P-25 impressed by its possibilities. Pilots such as Jean Behra, Harry Schell and even Stirling Moss had glorious moments with this magnificent racing car whose development lasted for several seasons, reaching the first victory in 1959, GP of Belgium, at the hands of Swedish driver Joakim Bonier. But things were changing quickly at the start of the new decade of the 60s.
The ideas of English builders such as John Cooper and Colin Chapman (Lotus) applying the rear engine in lighter and more efficient cars led to the decline of the big forward engine racing cars. The P-25 was active until 1960, giving way to the following developments of the brand with the new configuration. So the attempts to lead F1 would bear fruit, BRM getting its first World title in 1962.
