Cartrix Lancia-Ferrari D50 No.20 Belgium GP 1956, Andre Pilette.
Grand Prix Legends Collection.
Numbered limited edition car in a metal tin, with presentation cloth, display base and certificate card sheet.
Lancia designed and built the D50 to showcase its refined technology by contesting the F1 World under the new standards of 1954. It was one of the most advanced vehicles of the time. Its 2.5-liter, 8-cylinder, 90º V, 250CV / 8100 rpm atmospheric front engine was in a semi-linear position to compensate for inertia.
The gearbox on the rear axle and its suspended tanks on the sides gave it a very balanced weight distribution, 50% between the two axles. Lancia counted from the start with Alberto Ascari, two-time world champion and former Ferrari driver, who demonstrated the effectiveness of the D50 since his debut in Argentina in 1955. However, the death of Ascari in Monza, caused Lancia to abandon the competition and All the material was sold to Ferrari.
1955 had been bad year for Ferrari by the result of its 555 Supersqualo in front of the superiority of the own Lancia, Maserati 250F and Mercedes W196. The Scuderia Ferrari immediately took advantage of the new technology of the Lancia D50, drained the characteristic side tanks, redesigned the suspensions and increased the power of its V8 to 265 horses. With such evolution, in 1956 the Lancia-Ferrari D50 was superior to all its rivals including the emerging English teams of BRM and Vanwall.
In the hands of the pilots Collins, Castellotti, Musso, Portago and Fangio they won almost all the tests of 1956, with several doublets on the podium, with Juan Manuel Fangio winning the F1 World Championship. Its effective technology and reliability to obtain the victory definitively drove the compact and innovative Lancia-Ferrari D50 to the myth category.
