Penelope Pitlane Bentley Birkin 4.5 Litre.

1/32 scale slot car kit.

The story of Birkin adding a Amhurst Villiers supercharger to the 4.5 litre Bentley is a story in itself. The Birkin Bentley subject of this model was made for the 1929 season. It had a slim body with an offset single seat and a large streamlined radiator cowling. Due to the high-speed nature of Brooklands Birkin decided to remove the front brakes, this should be brought into mind when completing your model. It must have been a magnificent sight hurtling round the banking at Brooklands. This car captured the outright lap record at the 1930 Easter meeting when it lapped at 135.33 mph. The car used a gallon of fuel every 59 seconds and it developed 240 bhp. Birkin's record was broken by Kaye Don in a Sunbeam taking the record to 137 mph. The following year, in 1932 at the Easter meeting, Birkin again broke the lap record with a speed of 137.96 mph. This record stood for 2 years only to be broken by the 24-litre Napier Railton of John Cobb.
