Following the popular enthusiasm in 1968 Matra Sport decided to accelerate its programme and aim for victory at Le Mans with a year in advance. While waiting for the new 650 it is decided to adapt the 630 to the regulation of 1969: it will be the 630-650. Two cars will be entered in this form at Le Mans in 1969, numbers 34 and 35, although designated on their flanks as MS 650.

The No.35 is a 1967 modification of the No.30 car. Only it has Koni shock absorbers. Like No.34, No.35 is equipped with 6-spoke wheels and they are both equipped with a short rear hood and the exhausts are integrated into the rear diffuser to give a Venturi effect.

If the race for the top positions is played out quickly between Porsche and Ford, the battle for the places of honour is tough and Matra does not detract from this game. Out of the 4 cars, three are ranked 4, 5 and 7 (car No.35).
