Jean-Pierre Jabouille is in pole and takes the lead of the race. Derek Bell his team-mate widens the gap. At sunrise they are 8 laps in front of the Porsche 936 car number 4 of Jurgen Barth. It is a pity in their turn they are forced to retire just after 9am when a piston breaks. There is not more than in track the A442 #8 to try to save the honor.
